also.. do NOT torrent in germany unless you really know what you are doing. If you want to hop on the pirate boat I recommend one click hosters and sites like warez-bb...
Youtube videos are blocked since the GEMA and Google can't get an agreement. Use Proxmate or an equal Browserplugin for this.
Netflix just isn't available in Europe (it's US only I think) because the companies who "own" the copyright on the movies, series, etc didn't give Netflix the agreement to open it for the world. It's the same with Pandora, although you can use Proxmate for that too.
There might be a workaround for Netflix with some DNS settings I heard of, but I can't find it now.
Try http://hola.org/ It's a pugin for your browser. You dont have to use a VPN or anything. Just install it and you can enjoy Netflix, Pandora etc as is usual.
Regarding YouTube - or at least music videos - you could also try vimeo.com. As mentioned above the best solution is to use some kind of proxy. But be aware that this slows down your connection. As you seem to be in a rural area that could be a problem bandwidth wise.
I am using http://www.hidemyass.com/vpn/ (costs a bit) to watch TopGear UK and YouTube. You can chose the country where you want your to tunnel to, so if you want Netflix (and say it's only available in the US because I don't know where else) you can tunnel back home ;) If you want only youtube you can tunnel to Austria or UK because this will be a bit faster.
Overall speeds are highly dependend on your bandwidth, if you have like 1MB/s things will go smoothly. Below 500KB/s it could be on the slow side...
Nice blog, I like to see your view on things! Keep it up!
I can recommend StrongVPN for watching Netflix from Germany (http://strongvpn.com/). Been using it for a few months now, excellent speeds and good prices.
you might want to try: www.lovefilm.de for BBC series (Top Gear, Dr. Who, Luther, ...) www.watchever.de for a couple of US series (Breaking Bad, Heroes, ...)
use the proxtube addon for youtube
ReplyDeleteand/or the mediahint.com addon for anything else
you're welcome. Enjoy your stay ;)
